The building of our 8-foot CNC Routing table went well, and as with all engineering feats, changes are due.
Using Open Builds V-Rail, the span of 118 inches was just too much for the joint in the middle.
The first design suspends the linear rail for the gantry from end to end. It is placed in a vertical orientation. The change will be to lay it horizontally on a solid table. This will keep it flat. It will also stay parallel to the rest of the machine.
This will remove the sag in the linear rails. We found the sag causes the bit to go deeper toward the middle of the table.
But, even with this setback, the machine still produced a couple of wonderful examples of what we do.

This is a 4×8 Plywood Backdrop Carving for the Telethon of Stars Fundraiser benefiting Easter Seals in Paducah, Ky

This carving was just a test on scrap wood, testing the speed and accuracy of the new system. Carvings like this can be put in almost any of our woodwork.
